2001 - Third Addition

THE DOROTHY ELLIOTT WING

After several years of discussion, the Trutees, Board of Stewards and finally the Congreation of Bloomingdale United Church gave their approval for a kitchen to be built on the north-end of the present building.  The next challenge was to get the finances in place.  Ever blessed by pledges from Church Members, donations in kind, and personal donations, there was still a shortfall for the addition.  A plan was designed where 10 people of Bloomingdale United Church guaranteed a personal loan for this amount.

After this was all in place, the sod was turned by Dorothy Elliott and two trustees: Hugh Duncan and Bob Weber.  It was decided to name this new wing "The Dorothy Elliott Wing".  Dorothy Elliot had been the Bloomingdale United Church Organist for many years, and to this day remains very faithful to Bloomingdale United in many ways.
The Dorothy Elliot Wing was dedicated in 2001 with the new addition of a kitchen, washroom, and church office (later turned into a nursery with the office downstairs), and Sunday School room downstairs.

The use of the new kitchen in the church-addition is a blessing for which the congregation is especially thankful.  It is used for many occasions, such as Church Suppers, Soup and Buns Sunday, Men's Breakfast.  The old kitchen on the lower level remains functional and is an asset to the space used for children and youth ministry.

There is something to be said for kitchens being the heart of the home.   A Church with a great kitchen is a meaningful blessing.
